Creation of worksheets for teaching financial mathematics at lower and upper secondary levels
Dolák, Tomáš ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Janda, David (referee)
In this thesis, I focus on the creation and application of worksheets for teaching financial mathematics in primary and secondary schools. Not only do these worksheets enhance students' knowledge of financial mathematics, but they also bolster their financial literacy. Furthermore, these tools can be employed to practice a range of skills such as programming, algorithm design, information retrieval, group discussions, and independent problem-solving. A key feature of these worksheets is their structure, which follows the Cornell Notes system. This system emphasizes formulating questions, taking notes, and creating indi- vidual summaries. Additionally, I have incorporated a student-centered self-assessment system into the worksheets, enabling students to track their achievement of the goals set by the worksheets. The main objective of this work is to create worksheets for teaching, and then test these worksheets in the classroom. Another aim is to analyze the students' solutions and propose potential approaches to individual tasks that teachers can implement in their lessons. After the students completed the worksheets, I analyzed their solutions and sub- sequently conducted a questionnaire survey among the pupils to gather further infor- mation. This survey either supported or contradicted my...

Title: Financial Mathematics in Czech textbooks from the Marchet's Reform Author: Martin Melcer Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Martina Bečvářová, Ph.D. Abstract: The PhD thesis presents a comprehensive view of the development and the position of financial mathematics in Czech textbooks and collections particularly those used in high schools with consideration of the political situation in our country. The analysed period from 1908, i.e. from the Marchet's Reform, to the present is divided into five principal stages. In each stage textbooks covering financial mathematics instruction in all types of secondary schools are chosen. This shows the level and extent of the presentation, the complexity of the given tasks and problems and the way in which they are integrated into the textbooks or the syllabus, more precisely. At first the basic general characteristics of the textbooks are presented followed by a detailed description of partial topics of study which are then analysed thoroughly and mutually compared. The conclusions of the PhD thesis reflect the current situation of financial mathematics instruction and offer ways leading to the improvement in the level of financial literacy of our citizens. Financial literacy in primary school
Helus, Jiří ; Hromadová, Jana (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee)
There were about 6.7 % of inhabitants in foreclosure in the Czech Republic in 2020. The most likely cause is population's low financial literacy whose bases we get at primary school. So we asked whether pupils really learn financial literacy at primary school. We found data for teaching plan in the framework educational programme. We realised, using a questionnaire for teachers, among other things that the number of lessons dedicated to financial literacy is really low. We verified fulfilment of framework educational programme by a test for primary school pupils which was completed by 113 pupils. It showed that they have very low knowledge of financial literacy. Then, we evaluated the situation after primary school through the same test which was filled in by 157 people who completed primary school. The results were better than in case of pupils. Finally, we suggested steps for increasing financial literacy, for instance raising the number of lessons. 1
